Oct 2024, Kuala Lumpur - Amidst the beautiful landscapes of Kuala Lumpur and nestled in between skyscrapers and 5 star hotels sits Badan Warisan Malaysia. Formed as an NGO in 1983, the venue’s ties to preservation and rich cultural history seems fit for House of Antara’s first ever solo show for the house’s next step to the future.

Aptly titled “A New Way Home”, House of Antara is looking to grow into its new era with a little bit more than a dream and grit. The House’s growth since 2023 has included features on Tatler, Elle Malaysia, The Edge and on stage in various music festivals. This has helped the House to balance its need for storytelling, creative excursions and commercial viability. For A New Way Home, the house will be embarking on a 3 day journey with 3 distinct parts to encapsulate the vision of the its creative directors. A New Way Home will be hosted at Badan Warisan Malaysia from the 3rd of October to the 5th of October.

Here's a quick rundown on what to expect. 

Fashion Show

For the first time ever, the label will be presenting couture pieces, past collections and new collections at Badan Warisan with support from brands including Oh Dayang, Sangon, Rhea Tan Design and Hollywood stylist Raf Choo. Invited guests will get to witness this transitional period for the house in person while the general public will be able to watch the show via IG live on the house’s Instagram account, @houseofantara.

Performances

The show will also feature performances by acclaimed independent performers, Laura Munan and Belle Sisoski. Laura Munan is a Sarawakian singer-songwriter and indigenous rights advocate. Belle Sisoski is an Ethnic-house international live act DJ who has amassed close to 3 million followers combined on Tiktok and Instagram.

Exhibition

House of Antara will also be opening up its not so distant archives and creative processes for public viewing from the 4th of October to the 5th of October, 11am to 5pm. This exhibition will also feature publicly-sourced heirloom pieces, and how they’re being embraced and styled today versus back then. Integrated within House of Antara’s body of work and echoing the House’s ethos in storytelling, the exhibition will also feature poetry by local poet and writer, Pravin Nair.

Designers Market

Specially curated by the house, this Designers Market features a spread of vendors that specifically fit the message and identity of the House; including shoe label Rhea Tan, cosmetics brand BlueMollyx, and DIY Fragrances by ARK among others. This market will open its doors to the public on the 5th of October (Saturday) from 11am to 5pm.

Crowdfunding

To be able to continue telling the stories it wants to tell, the house will also be opening up equity shares to be invested in with a selection of benefits and packages. Encompassing 4 tiers ranging from RM 10 000 to RM 50 000, each with different benefits, investors will be able to receive the opportunity to custom create their own House of Antara garments, custom accessory pieces and receive a limited edition investors only scarf among others. A culmination of the House’s creative journey, the three day soiree aptly titled A New Way Home seeks to curate and create a platform that will allow for the House to grow while creating spaces for smaller and younger brands to find their way within the industry. While supporting local has been a call echoed for decades, this time around, the call to support and promote local creative ventures will also feature the combination of looking to long forgotten stories and marrying it with modern cuts and features, an endeavour the House of Antara promises to continue while it lives and breathes.

A New Way Home will run from the 3rd of October to the 5th of October, from 11am to 5pm at Badan Warisan Malaysia @ Jalan Stonor. While the fashion show on the 3rd is a by invite only get together, the general public can will be able to witness the show on IG Live. The exhibition and Designers Market will be open to public from 11am to 5pm.
